Verslo Žinios, the Lithuanian business daily, is expanding its web offering with a new addition to its job ads website cv.lt. In August 2010, the company bought the website lyga.lt, which focuses on classified ads for training and seminars and will be integrated into cv.lt.
"There are 30,000 to 40,000 unique visitors per month at lyga.lt," says Ugnius Jankauskas, managing director for Verslo Žinios. "It's the No. 1 place for people looking for training and seminars, mainly driving and language training."
The site, which has a very different audience from the news website vz.lt and cv.lt, which attract more people on a management level, will become a part of cv.lt, complementing the current offering of the site. Verslo Žinios had already been planning on developing the non-management job development section of the site. So when the offer came for the company to buy lyga.lt, it was perfect timing. "The price was very good," says Jankauskas. "The previous owners hadn't been able to generate revenue from the site and didn't have resources to develop it further. So the decision to buy was easier than to develop it ourselves, it costs us less and we still got the No. 1 site for this kind of information when it comes to traffic."
The word "lyga" means "league," and Verslo Žinios will discontinue the name. Instead, the site will be fully integrated into cv.lt, which has a much higher profile. "As soon as we are ready to pass all traffic to cv.lt, we will be able to sell domain," says Jankauskas. "It is a very good name for any kind of sports, of course!"
The cv.lt site itself was acquired in 2007. Verslo Žinios already had had a partnership agreement with the site, with advertisers able to buy package advertising in both the newspaper and the cv.lt portal. "Both of us were selling these packages and sharing revenues," says Jankauskas. "The main idea behind the acquisition of cv.lt was the synergy in job ads and content about career development. We already had the content about careers and printed job ads, but the Internet job ads market was overtaking the print job ads market. So we decided it made sense to buy cv.lt and add content on career topics, which would make us unique. And we could continue to sell print with on-line job ad packages."
With the new section covering non-professional career development that lyga.lt offers, the package is even more complete. "It will enrich and broaden the content and audience," says Jankauskas. "It will also add two new revenue streams from training - cv.lt will not only be the No. 1 professional career portal, but the No. 1 personal career advisor and the tool to find all the needed information related to your chosen career."
