TransWorld Snowboarding TransAM Tour Underway

A different kind of snowboarding contest is making its way around the U.S.

The ninth annual TransWorld Snowboarding TransAM tour kicked off this past weekend in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire.

The six-stop tour from coast to coast hits some of the most progressive park resorts throughout the United States during its upcoming season.

"The TransAM is a melting pot for some of the happiest up-and-coming riders on earth - it's more like going and riding with your friends than competing in a wait-at-the-top-for-your-one-run-all-day contest," says announcer Adam Kisiel of the High Cascade snowboard camp, which produces the event with the magazine.

After Waterville Valley, the tour will host four additional contests across the country before finishing the season on March 12 at Bear Mountain, Calif., for the 2011 TransWorld Snowboarding TransAM finals.

Between Waterville Valley and Bear Mountain, the 2011 TransWorld Snowboarding TransAM will also make stops at Big Boulder, Pa., Otsego Club, Gaylord, Mich., Park City, Utah, and Northstar-at-Tahoe, Calif.

In addition to other prizes, all riders receive a year's subscription to TransWorld Snowboarding magazine with their entry fee. Plus the magazine and participating resorts have teamed up to include a magazine subscription for everyone who buys a lift ticket the day of the event.
