Steffen Trannerup: Suction fish, surfing and space rockets

Our GROW blogger Steffen from Denmark goes fishing and sets up a great initiative connecting Bonnier Corporation and Bonnier Publications.

Testing, testing, one, two…

During my stay here in Winter Park, Heather Vessey and I have talked about how Bonnier Corp. and Bonnier Publications could share knowledge within email marketing in the future.

We want some sort of community or forum where everyone who works with this can exchange test results, creatives, campaigns, advice, etc. and share things we find inspirational. Sometimes something really stands out for some reason and these results should be spread out for everybody to use, learn and get inspired from.

So I've set up a new group in Bonfire where actual results can be uploaded. Everyone within Bonnier Corp. and Bonnier Puplications who works with email marketing participates in this group.

Hopefully that way the exchange program will be more than just a 3 month stay but also reach further in terms of sharing knowledge between the two Bonnier companies in the future.

What initially lead to this idea was that I by coincident saw a campaign for a holiday email blast Bonnier Corp. is doing. I thought the creative looked really cool, so why not test this on the Scandinavian market where we do a holiday email blast as well? It is right now on its way out and will be the first sharing of actual campaign material.

A few weeks ago the email marketing team had half a day doing teambuilding. We should have gone roller skating, but the skating rink was closed, so instead we went to a chicken wing bar/restaurant and had wings and a few beers. A nice alternative :)

A few weeks ago I had my fishing buddy and his girlfriend visiting from home. So at Sunday we set for Port Canaveral to go on an all day fishing trip on the Atlantic. The weather is a little cooler here in Florida now, and that day the waves were about 3 meters (9 feet) high. So it was a rough day but we caught a lot of fish. Sharks, black sea bass, triggerfish, and a pretty cool suction fish (see picture). On the top of it's head it has a suction organ which it uses when "travelling" with whales. After the 9 hour trip we went home and made a super nice shark dinner with ice cold white wine.

Last Friday I went with Josh, the editor of Windsurfing, and a couple of his friends to an NBA pre season game and saw Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks. Of cause Orlando won, 123-86. Next morning Josh picked me up at 6 am and together with Eddie, the editor of Islands, we went surfing at Cocoa Beach where the waves finally came in big. We stayed there the whole day just playing around in the waves!

Last Tuesday, NASA had scheduled the first launch of the Ares I-X, the biggest rocket ever to be launched. We went four people at 6 am to the Space Coast at Cape Canaveral. The launch was scheduled at 8 am, so we waited and waited and waited, until they finally postponed it for the next day. While waiting we had company, a wild alligator that hanged around the beach where we waited. Wednesday morning at 6 am we went again. At 8 it was cloudy so we waited one more ... Finally at 11:30 am the rocket launched in a giant cloud of exhaustion gas and fire. It took into the sky and of towards the Atlantic ocean where it finally descended into the ocean.

Watch the NASA video of the launch here.

The mystery continues ... Since my last post I've managed to loose not one but two more pairs of sunglasses. One I know I left in a store so that mystery is solved, but the others?  The total count is now 5 pairs missing. Oh yeah, add a camera to that list. A good thing is that when I finally go back, I'm not going to have any overweight!

Back to ground control!
