Paul Hansen Wins Photographer of the Year

Competing with 2,000 photographers and 45,000 photos, photographer Paul Hansen of Sweden's No. 1 morning paper Dagens Nyheter won the Newspaper Photographer of the Year award from Pictures of the Year International.

"It feels great, it gives me a little respite – I'm so happy when people contact me and praise my photos. So this is a huge acknowledgement that Dagens Nyheter is in the same class as the New York Times and Getty Images," Hansen said in an interview in Dagens Nyheter.

The award isn't the first Hansen has won for his photos. The past year he won in the international news category of the Swedish Photo of the Year awards and in the same category for the U.S. equivalent, Best of Photo Journalism.
