Finnish TV channel MTV3 retook the No. 1 spot in 2009.
Finnish TV channels attracted record numbers of viewers in 2009, with MTV MEDIA's free-TV channel MTV3 leading the pack with 23 percent of all viewers according to Finnish audience measurement company Finnpanel. Coming in at No. 5 was MTV MEDIA's Sub, with 7 percent of the total viewers. MTV3 retook the No. 1 viewership spot that it had held in 2007. In 2008, MTV3 was No. 2 after state-owned YLE TV1.
The number of households subscribing to pay-TV channels was 640,000 at year-end 2009, up from 610,000 in 2008. Despite online and mobile technologies, the traditional TV set is still holding strong as the most popular viewing medium in Finland, with TV sets still selling strong in the country.
