In two related articles from TechCrunch, last year’s “hockey-stick” growth explosion for Twitter is examined; 70% of Twitter’s users joined in 2008, 20% joined in the past 60 days, the average user has been on Twitter for less than a year (275 days), and there is an estimated 5.000 – 10.000 new accounts registered every day. The question now is whether Twitter’s main challenger Jaiku has been left behind in the battle over the micro blogging community? In early January, Google announced that the Jaiku engine will be open-sourced, and in his personal blog, the founder of Jaiku Jyri Engeström, offers his view on the change.

YouTube and Warner Music in Battle Over Online Video Revenues

YouTube and Warner Music are getting a divorce due to failing efforts to reach an agreement on sustainable business terms, as reported by AFP. The music labels' agreements with YouTube reportedly call for a split of advertising revenues on posted videos, in addition to a small fee for each video watched. For Universal - the most popular music video provider on YouTube - the yearly revenue growth is currently almost 80%. Since 2005, Universal has earned nearly 100 million dollars in digital music video revenue.
