At the recent AppWorks conference in Oslo - the largest conference in Scandinavia on mobile applications - the two hottest topics were location services and tablets. So says Bonnier R&D's Megan Miller, who spoke on a panel with representatives from Adobe and Katachi, a soon-to-be-launched tablet magazine.
"We talked about what defines a magazine experience, and whether it's possible to move the experience to a tablet while creating something entirely new," says Miller. "Does this mean print magazines are going to go away? Not anytime soon. And if they're not, why do we need tablet magazines anyway? Because they're portable, beautiful, cool, a new business opportunity, etc."
The panel also discussed what consumers do with print magazines and how those activities can be brought into the tablet space, and the new behaviors that define tablets alone and are shaping how we make media products for these devices. "It was a fine opportunity to share ideas with some of the best in the business," says Miller.
