Meet Nia Williams

From the U.K. to Melbourne: Our new GROW blogger travels to sunny Australia for three months.

My name is Nia Williams, and I'm a designer for Autumn Publishing in the UK. I've been working for Autumn now for over 8 years. I mainly design children's books on learning range, activities, and coloring.  I've even illustrated a few books in the last year, too, which amazed myself. I have just finished a huge range for a supermarket called Morrisons, which is amazing because they have asked for reprints. Yeah!!!  So I'm really pleased wth that.

I will be spending my next 3 months at The Five Mile Press, Melbourne, doing stuff similar to what I do at my everyday job at Autumn. Most of these will be children's books, too, including titles for Brimax books.

After a grueling 23-hour journey from Heathrow to Melbourne, I finally arrived at my flat just off Flinders Lane at 9pm. It's the furthest I've ever flown, and the jet lag is playing havoc with my sleeping patterns!

I am told that I am arriving into the winter, so I have packed a lot of warm clothes. I really hope Australian winters are not like our winters in England!

I'm really looking forward to the experience of working here at The Five Mile Press, and the excitement of sight seeing and traveling to parts of Oz.

Hi Alex, No spiders, I think it's too cold for them. I'm starting to feel settled now. I'm sleeping much better now, and I'm really struggling with getting up at 6.30 in the morning! The flat is big enough for a party, much too big for one small person. I only see day light at the weekends, but the city is really cool at night time though! xx
