Meet Helene Guldahl

Helene Guldahl goes from Woman to Amelia with GROW.

Helene Guldahl from Bonnier Media in Norway has packed up and left for Stockholm for three months to work under the GROW program at Bonnier Tidskrifter for Amelia. There, as she does at Bonnier Media's Woman, she works with the layout and design.

"I've been the art director for Woman for four years," Guldahl says. "Before that I worked at a book publisher in England and for competitor Aller Media. At Amelia I work with the team that does the layout for the magazine."

Guldahl, 28, didn't have to travel far, in terms of geography or work culture.

"We work very similarly in Norway and Sweden, apart from lunch, which is a bit longer here," she says. "But there is a difference in that Bonnier Tidskrifter is big and has been around longer. Amelia's budget is also bigger than ours, which means you have more freedom when it comes to choosing photos - and a much bigger editorial staff!"

The work pace is a bit different as well, says Guldahl.

"It's exciting to see how they work here at Amelia, it's a much faster pace in that they put out two issues a month, and the work flow is not what I'm used to," she says. "But it's a challenge to think in new ways and fun to work with a magazine that's so big! Corrections in Swedish are also a challenge."

Guldahl recommends that anyone who thinks of applying to GROW should do it.

"We are lucky that we have the possibility to experience other countries and cultures through our jobs, and three months seems the perfect amount of time for it," she says. "The only problem is that you risk falling in love with the city you're living in!"
