Bonnier.com recently talked with Nicklas Norrby and Sophie Brusberg of TV4, recent winners of the Purple People awards for media sales given out by Mindshare. Norrby won for Media Salesman of the Year and Brusberg for Traffic Manager of the Year.
Among other things, the jury mentioned that "even if he doesn't get all the business, Nicklas doesn't lose heart or carry any baggage to his next business dealing. If it's possible he always does a little extra for the client with well-packaged self-confidence for his product's advantages over the competition."
Likewise, the jury singled out Brusberg, saying she is "service-minded, flexible and knowledgeable about what she does. In short, she was born to take on the job of traffic manager."
What advice does Norrby have for others working in the business who hope to win such a prize? "Be honest and base your proposal to your clients from their perspective and not on trying to meet your monthly budget," he says. "The risk is huge that the client will see through you and you'll lose credibility. Work in the long term instead with your customer relations and put yourself in your clients' position and needs and base your proposals on that knowledge. It will lead to better results for your client, the company you represent - and your monthly sales goals."
For Brusberg, it's all about attitudes and ways of working. "Almost everyone has a high workload and not enough time so you have an advantage if you are good at finding shortcuts with the different systems you work with to increase the pace of work," she says. "It helps to be detail-oriented and a bit stubborn."
Norrby says that winning the prize meant more to him than he would have imagined. "It's of course incredible to be recognized for the job I do and that it is appreciated," he says. "I look at it as the market giving me a seal of approval that my way of working is good."
