Jorid Aldrin: Goodbye, Copenhagen!

Our GROW ambassador Jorid says farewell to Copenhagen – but she will definitely come back soon.

So, this is it.

My GROW period has come to an end. I can't believe how fast time flies. It feels almost like I've just arrived, and I could easily have stayed for another 3 months. But my train is leaving for Stockholm in 5 days, so it's time to pack my bags and say goodbye to Copenhagen and Bonnier Publications.

My time here in Copenhagen and at Bonnier Publications has been amazingly fun, and I have had the opportunity to learn lots of new things, get an insight in the everyday life at Bonnier Publications and get to know all the nice people that work at the online department.

Last Thursday, Bonnier Publications celebrated it's 50th anniversary. It was a really fun day that started off with breakfast at the online department followed by something called ristaffel (a buffet of some sort) in the canteen, a little work and then dinner and a Beatles show in the old gasometer at Østerbro that has been rebuilt into a cool theatre. It was a really nice celebration and a good round off to my GROW period.

So did I learn to understand Danish completely?

No, actually not, even if I do understand most of it now. But it's still very hard to understand the different dialects and when people speak very fast, but I am really amazed that I learned as much as I have.

The really cool thing about Sweden, Denmark and Norway is that our languages is pretty much the same, but the Danes have a total different pronunciation  which is very hard for most Swedes to understand. But now at work it actually happens that we speak three different languages in a conversation, because I have two Norwegian co-workers as well, so sometimes we end up speaking Norwegian, Swedish and Danish in a meeting and everyone understand each other. That's kind of amazing.

So 5 days to go, and on Tuesday it's coffee mans day. They have a man who delivers coffee to the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's really cool, we don't have that in Sweden, so at 10:30 am everyone runs out to the coffee man and orders delicious espressos and cappuccinos. I will really enjoy my last week here in Copenhagen and I will definitely come back here in the summer!

It's been an amazing three months and I wish all the new GROW workers for 2010 good luck. It's a wonderful time you can look forward to.

Bye bye everyone and thanks for reading my blog!

:) Jorid
