It's the e-mail you least want. It begins, "With great sadness we must announce that our colleague XX has died after an illness ...". Sometimes the e-mail is expected, but it still hits you in the heart. In SF, many received this mail twice within a very short time. Our dear friends and colleagues Inger Sjöstedt in Svenska Bio and Wenche Lerdahl on SF in Norway have recently lost the fight against cancer.
Both have left large gaps, and of course there are no words can express how they are being missed.
In one way or another, we all have someone in our neighborhood who suffered from cancer, whether we know it or not.
If you want to get involved, so the next colleague or family member who is diagnosed will win the fight, you can go to the Cancerfonden Web site and make a contribution there.
There are many organizations whose purposes are just as deserving. Choose to support an organization that is near to your heart. I have chosen Cancerfonden for being a leader in funding Swedish cancer research. It is time that we get relegate this disease to history!
