Bonnier will power its printing plants in Stockholm, Malmö and Borås with low-emission electricity.

Bonnier has signed a contract with Vattenfall's environmentally sound VattenEl EPD through 2011. VattenEl EPD will provide electricity to Bonnier's real estate and printing plants (Bold Printing Group) Stockholm, Malmö and Borås.

"Our agreement not only provides savings in money, but also helps the environment," commented Bengt Wall, purchasing manager for Bonnier AB.

VattenEl EPD produces hydroelectric power in accordance with current environmental laws under the EPD system. Now Bonnier can track how their electricity has been produced, with hard data on its total carbon footprint. The estimates are based on data from life-cycle analysis, which tracks total environmental impact-from fuel production, construction, operation and maintenance to the handling of waste and decommissioning of power plants. CO2 emissions from VattenEl EPD are very low.

The agreement with Vattenfall gives printing plants renewable electricity with very low emissions. Bonnier is committed to reducing the negative environmental impact of its operations and nurturing sustainable community development.

I wonder if the same kinds of electricity offerings are available in the U.S.
