Great Journalist Award in Finland Announced

Journalists honored for their achievements in print and radio.

Winners of this year's Great Journalist Award in Finland were announced at a ceremony on March 24 in Helsinki. The awards, which are sponsored by Bonnier, have been given out since 2001. The EUR 7,500 prize is given out in three categories.

The Journalist of the Year 2009 was Kristiina Tolvanen of Finland's No. 2 daily newspaper Aamulehti. The winners of the Journalism Contribution of the Year 2009 were reporter Pasi Heikura, producer Pertti Ylikojola and reporters Anu Heikkinen and Kaisa Pulakka, for the YLE Radio 1 talk show, Aristoteleen kantapää (Aristotle's heel). The Article of the Year 2009 was "Minun kouluni on nyt heidän" (my school is now theirs), by reporter Leena Sharma, photographer Kaisa Rautaheimo and illustrator Riikka Haahti of weekly magazine Suomen Kuvalehti. The jury of nine journalists, media executives and academics was headed by Merja Ylä-Anttila, editor in chief for MTV's news desk.
