The final of Big Brother Finland attracted a million viewers

The Big Brother final in Finland 2009 broke Sub's all-time viewing record. When the winner was announced, 973,000 viewers were tuned in, which is hugely impressive as the Finnish population is 5.3 million.

On November 29, 2009, the Big Brother final in Finland broke Sub's all-time viewing record with an average of 779 000 viewers. When the winner was announced, 973 000 viewers were tuned in, which is hugely impressive as the Finnish population is 5.3 million.

The viewing figures for Big Brother 2009 were up on last year's season. The daily one-hour show attracted an average of 419, 000 viewers, while the Sunday broadcasts, during which housemates were eliminated, pulled in an average of 585,000 viewers. The BB website has had an average of 150,000 unique visitors a day. Big Brother 2009 was also a success in social media: The BB group in Facebook has almost 32,000 members. The average age of the BB viewer is 39.

It has already been confirmed that Sub will broadcast Season 6 of the reality TV hit in the fall of 2010. 

"The fabulous viewing figures are a proof of the fact that Finland loves Big Brother. It's great to start planning the new season from here," says Maaretta Tukiainen, Director of Programmes at Sub.

Big Brother has been seen in 112 of the world's 195 countries. In the past ten years up to two billion people — a third of the world's population — has watched Big Brother. In 2009 there were Big Brother productions in 14 different countries.
