Even though it's a magazine for gardeners, the Swedish magazine Allt om Trädgård's readers also spend a lot of time in front of the computer. The online forum for the magazine is very popular in fact. So it's no surprise that gardeners are also active on Facebook.
Since the magazine created its own page on Facebook, it has gotten over 2,200 fans. And the fans are engaged, adding comments, discussing and giving advice about everything on earth in the gardening world.
"Most of the editorial team is already on Facebook so the amount of extra time it takes to manage is almost zero," says Marit Danielsson, editor-in-chief. "We know that the fastest growing group on Facebook are women 50+, which coincides with much of our target audience."
Danielsson says that the Facebook group also provides something concrete to the magazine. "If we ask for tips about tomatoes, we get a lot of feedback," she says. And while the Alltomtradgard.se website and Facebook overlap, the groups aren't the same, she says. "For many of the Facebook fans, it's a portal to the web - we refer them there often if they have questions about plants."
