Last week, Swedish daily Expressen launched its iPhone app. On June 14, the app was updated with editorial, op-ed and culture sections. The app has been uploaded by over 60,000 so far and quickly became No. 1 on the download list at the App Store in Sweden. The newspaper's cell-phone site is also seeing plenty of success, with a record 1,888,254 page views last week.
"Clearly, people consumer our news via cell phones when the weather is nice," says Mattias Carlson, managing editor for Expressen Digital Media for expressen.se.
The iPhone app was developed by Expressen's mobile editor Gunnar R. Johansson in cooperation with Herman Olsson from Idelapps and Johan Kuno from Semara Productions. A new Android app will be released shortly.
Expressen's Editor-in-Chief Thomas Mattsson has blogged about the app here (in Swedish).
