MTV3 Wins Industry Award

MTV3's news program 45 minuuttia wins journalism prize from the Finnish editor's association.

Finland's MTV3 and its news program 45 minuuttia (45 minutes) have won the journalism of the year award from the Finnish editors' association. The prize is given out every few years, and this is the first time a TV program has won.

"It's a great pleasure to get an award from the editors-in-chief of Finland," says Jussi Eronen, executive producer for 45 minuuttia. "Top executive journalists are picky and they don't want to reward just anything.

Finland's Top Chef Gets Top Cookbook

As part of his winnings, Finland's Top Chef Akseli Herlevi got his own cookbook, which sold out in the first week.

When TV channel Sub debuted Top Chef Suomi in Finland in January, the show was a big success, with an average of 315,000 viewers and an audience share of 14.4. But before Sub had even started, a big question was: What should the grand prize be? "The first idea of giving the winner a job in a three-star Michelin restaurant abroad wouldn't have worked if an older contestant with Michelin experience and a family won," says Pete Paavolainen, executive producer at Sub.

Great Journalist Award Finland Winners Announced

At a gala dinner yesterday in Helsinki, the winners of the Great Journalist Award, Finland were celebrated.

The winners of the Great Journalist Award, Finland were made public yesterday. The awards, which celebrated their tenth anniversary, were given out in three categories and were chosen from among 145 nominations; the finalists in each category were announced on Feb. 15.

The Journalist of the Year went to Jarmo Luuppala of Iltalehti. Finalists in the category were Heikki Ali-Hokka of YLE and Sami Rainisto of Talouselämä.

MTV3 Launches Comedy Channel

Finland is about to become funnier with the new pay-channel MTV3 Komedia.

MTV3 Komedia is set to begin broadcasting in Finland as a new pay-TV channel on cable and satellite networks starting Dec. 15, 2010. MTV3 Komedia will be Finland's first channel that is dedicated to 100 percent comedy. 
 
MTV3 Komedia will offer program content to new target audiences and make the MTV3 Channel Package even more diverse. 

Easy Living Goes International

Finnish TV series Easy Living has been bought by Warner Bros. and U.S. production company Warner Horizon will do an American version of the popular drama from MTV3.

The North American rights to MTV3's drama series Easy Living has been bought by Warner Bros. One of MTV3's more popular dramas, Easy Living garnered 38 percent of audience share when it was shown during prime time on Finnish television. The program of 32 hour-long episodes focuses on the character of Tapio Mikkonen, a ruthless entrepreneur who lives in luxury with his family while facing millions in debt, which his son secretly tries to help by copying his father and committing a robbery.

MTV3.fi Relaunches Front Page

After a year of discussion and planning, MTV3.fi has a new front page. MTV3’s Petteri Ruotsalainen explains why.

MTV3.fi has gotten a new face. "After years of compromises and 'quick fixes' to sudden needs from different departments in the entire MTV Media company, we launched a new front page on August 16," says Petteri Ruotsalainen, managing editor for online content at MTV Media, the company behind Finland's largest commercial TV station, MTV3. "The goal was to find an answer to problems that plague the old front page.

MTV3 in Finland top in viewers

Finnish TV channel MTV3 retook the No. 1 spot in 2009.

Finnish TV channels attracted record numbers of viewers in 2009, with MTV MEDIA's free-TV channel MTV3 leading the pack with 23 percent of all viewers according to Finnish audience measurement company Finnpanel. Coming in at No. 5 was MTV MEDIA's Sub, with 7 percent of the total viewers. MTV3 retook the No. 1 viewership spot that it had held in 2007. In 2008, MTV3 was No. 2 after state-owned YLE TV1.

MTV3 News Launches Cooperation with Wall Street

MTV3 News is the first European TV channel to launch cooperation with US stock exchange company NASDAQ OMX.

The most important stock market events of the week will be analysed once a week on the MTV3 News website by a NASDAQ OMX New York analyst. Straight from Wall Street, New York, the market review videos will be produced exclusively for MTV3 News, with a new video released every Tuesday.

NASDAQ OMX is the world's largest exchange company operating in more than 50 countries on six continents.

Cooperation with NASDAQ OMX is a valuable contribution to the financial news provision of MTV3 News.

MTV3 morning show turns 20

The oldest morning show in the Nordic countries, Huomenta Suomi (Good Morning, Finland), was first broadcasted on December 1, 1989.

Huomenta Suomi is broadcasted on MTV3 on weekdays from 6:25 to 9:10. The show became an instant viewer favourite, despite sceptics who claimed Finns were not going to watch TV in the morning and would rather read the newspaper or listen to the radio. According to the latest TV Audience Measurement, Huomenta Suomi has increased in popularity in 2009, with figures including share of viewing among the 25-54 age group up by almost 15%.
