For the eighth year in a row, Germany's Hörbuch Hamburg Osterwold Prizes were awarded to the actors whose vocal talents in reading aloud were deemed the best during the year. Elisabeth Schwarz and August Zirner were this year's recipients of the prize. Schwarz won for her reading of Natascha Kampusch's 3096 Tage (3096 Days), which according to CEO Johannes Stricker was deeply impressive because of her "respectful distance from the text and a sincere and genuine sympathy for the facts at the same.

German actors Stefanie Stappenbeck and Matthias Brandt win the Osterwold 2010 prize for their recordings for Hörbuch Hamburg Verlag.

Actress Stefanie Stappenbeck - known in Germany for her stage, screen, TV and radio roles - and stage and TV actor Matthias Brandt were recently honored by Hörbuch Hamburg Verlag in the publisher's seventh annual Osterwold 2010 recognition for outstanding audiobook performances. Stappenbeck and Brandt were joined by Hamburg comedian and best-selling author Hans Scheibner, who received an honorable mention for best interpretion of his own texts. Hörbuch Hamburg Verlag is a part of Bonnier.

New German Soccer Series for Kids

The Z-Team soccer series hopes to spark reader interest in boys - and girls.

In an age where girls are the biggest readers, children's book publisher Thienemann Verlag is making a push to get boys reading more with a new soccer series, the Z-Team. The series is written for boys - and girls - in two age groups: those 6 and up and those 8 and up. The first six books of the series were launched in early March - four for younger readers and two for older readers.

People's Choice Goes to Stephenie Meyer Audio Book

Readers pick Twilight title as book of the year in Germany's Hörkules Awards for audio books.

On March 8, German audio book publisher Hörbuch Hamburg Verlag had much to celebrate when its smash hit Silberfisch line book Bis (s) zum Ende der Nacht (Breaking Dawn) by Stephenie Meyer won the Hörkulino prize for children's and young adult audio book of the year. The Hörkulino, which is chosen by readers, is a category in the Hörkules Awards, Germany's major prizes for audio books. More than 100,000 votes were cast for the book, which is read by Ulrike Grote, an audience favorite and longtime reader for Hörbuch Hamburg audiobooks.
