August Prize to The Boys

Sweden's top book prize goes to Jessica Schiefauer's children's book.

Jessica Schiefauer's Pojkarna (The boys) won Sweden's prestigious book award, the August Prize 2011 for the Swedish children's and young adult book of the year. The prize was announced yesterday at a ceremony in Stockholm. The jury wrote that "boy country is infiltrated with a sharp and revealing girl's point of view.

A Million Nursery Books

Bonnier Carlsen's Barnkammarbok series of children's nursery books celebrates the one-million milestone.

Sweden is a land of singers, with far more than its fair share of famous artists, from pop icons to opera divas. One reason could be that Swedish children learn to sing at a young age. And children's book publisher Bonnier Carlsen has done its part with the Barnkammarbok series - nursery books - which feature the music and words of a wide range of songs for children. The beautiful hardcover books come with a CD of the music, so children and parents can listen and sing along.

Today the nominees were announced to Sweden's No. 1 book award, the Augustpriset 2011.

Bonnier Carlsen Organizes Short Story Contest

Children's and young adult book publisher Bonnier Carlsen started working with Ungdomar.se this year. At the portal, author Lina Forss has been blogging and Katerina Janouch has been answering questions about love and sex, among other things.

"When you work with children's and young adult books you need to be creative to find new ways of reaching readers," says Tove Kullenberg, information and public relations manager at Bonnier Carlsen.

LasseMaja Series Out as E-books

Bonnier Carlsen's popular children's detective series launched as e-books - in Swedish and English. 

Bonnier Carlsen's children's books about the detective agency LasseMaja have been a big hit in Sweden. The five books from the series are now being released as e-books - in Swedish and in cooperation with Weldon Owen in San Francisco in English, with LasseMaja, the main character, called JerryMaya.

The books will be in an e-pub format and will be available worldwide at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks and other places.

Christina Herrström's book Tusen gånger starkare will hit the big screen in September.

On September 24, the latest Swedish book-to-movie will have its premiere when Christina Herrström's young adult novel Tusen gånger starkare (A thousand times stronger) makes it to movie theaters around Sweden.
