Bonnier Publishes Steve Jobs' Biography in Swedish and Norwegian

Cappelen Damm and Albert Bonniers Förlag publish Walter Isaacson's book about Apple founder.

On Oct. 5, a giant departed the earth – Steve Jobs. Science historian and former TIME editor Walter Isaacson followed Jobs for a number of years and interviewed him 40 times. The result is a biography that will be released on Oct. 24 in the U.S. and some 20 other countries. Among them is Sweden, published by Albert Bonniers Förlag.

"Jobs let nothing slide, including the choice of author for his biography," says publisher Martin Kaunitz.

August Prize Nominees Named

Bonnierförlagen books nominated in several categories for Sweden's top book award, the August Prize.

Today the nominees were announced to Sweden's No. 1 book award, the Augustpriset 2011.

Tomas Tranströmer Meets the Press

A happy Tomas Tranströmer met the press at the steps of his apartment building in Stockholm with his wife Monica, Anna Tillgren, PR manager and Eva Bonnier, publisher, both from his publisher Albert Bonniers Förlag. In answer to the questions what they did when the Nobel prizes were announced, Monica Tranströmer's reply "we sat and read, like other retirees!" was met with laughter.

Publisher Eva Bonnier says that she actually didn't watch the broadcast of the announcement of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Bonnierförlagen to Work with Swedish Trains

Passenger rail company SJ's new customer magazine Book includes excerpts from Bonnierförlagen books.

Johan Theorin's new book will be part of the selection.

When Sweden's state-owned passenger rail system SJ launches its new customer magazine, book publisher Bonnierförlagen is along for the ride. The magazine, Book, will premier in the fall and come out twice a year with 120,000 copies printed. A large part of the magazine will be given over to excerpts from recent books.

Book Designs from Bonnierförlagen Win Swedish Industry Recognition

Five titles from Bonnierförlagen recognized for exemplary book design by Svensk Bokkonst and a jury of trade and cultural institutions.

Every year the Swedish Svensk Bokkonst institute highlights 25 books as the best examples of Swedish book production for the year. A number of trade and cultural organizations are part of the election committee that decides which books should be included in the year's catalog - the National Library of Sweden, Nationalmuseum and University College of Arts, Crafts Design are some of the institutions participating.

Lasse Hallström to Direct The Hypnotist

Lasse Hallström will direct his first Swedish film in 24 years, The Hypnotist, with SF and Sonet Film.

The 2009 Swedish bestseller The Hypnotist, a thriller by Lars Kepler published by Albert Bonniers Förlag, will be the first Swedish feature film from director Lasse Hallström in 24 years.

Authors Get Their Say on TV Series

Nyläst, a new TV series on the Swedish Axess TV, features writers talking about their work. The series is sponsored by Bonnierförlagen.

On Sunday Sept. 26 at 9:30 p.m., Swedish Axess TV premiered the new series Nyläst (recently read). A literary magazine program, Nyläst features in-depth interviews with authors of new books as well as tips on books to read. The series, which is produced by Bonnierförlagen and Svenska Filmbolaget, will be broadcast every Sunday evening.

Albert Bonniers Förlag Releases Prime Minister Biography Series

The spring's big release from Albert Bonniers Förlag is a series of biographies of Swedish prime ministers from the past hundred years.

The 22-book series Sveriges Statsministrar under 100 år - Sweden's Prime Ministers Over a Century - is now available in Swedish book shops. The boxed set is the biggest project from Albert Bonniers Förlag in recent years and the launch includes a range of activities planned for 2010, including seminars with the authors and some of the former prime ministers along with a TV series that will be broadcast in May and June.

Bronze for Book Designer

Nina Ulmaja's design of En dramatikers dagbok is singled out from among 634 books from around the world.

Book designer Nina Ulmaja of Albert Bonniers Förlag recently won a bronze medal in the "Best Books From All Over the World" competition held in Leipzig. Ulmaja won for her design of Lars Norén's En dramatikers dagbok (a playwright's diary), which was published in 2009.

The book design competition, sponsored by the German foundation Stiftung Buchkunst in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig, has been held annually since 1963.

Svensk Filmindustri is filming The Hypnotist

Scandinavian major Svensk Filmindustri has acquired the rights to film the Swedish crime novel hit The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler.

The Hypnotist is a co-production between Svensk Filmindustri and Sonet Film, producers Börje Hansson and Peter Possne. The principal shooting of the movie will commence in 2010/2011.
